Course Description
In this session the Speakers share their latest research on utilizing 3D technology in almond orchard management. One of the speakers explains their 3D measurement and modeling framework, Helios, which simulates orchard systems to optimize designs and management practices using GPU technology for faster simulations. This framework integrates various models relevant to almond production, such as water use and yield dynamics, and is open source. Another Speaker focuses on the root systems of almond orchards, detailing their research on using lidar technology to map tree structures and integrating irrigation design with AI models for better management. They emphasize the importance of understanding root dynamics and the impacts of different management practices on root distribution and tree growth, aiming to enhance overall orchard sustainability and productivity.
