Course Description
This course, hosted by the California Farm Bureau Federation, provides a comprehensive overview of California’s evolving pesticide use enforcement program. Participants will explore regulatory updates, enforcement response strategies, electronic submission requirements, and public transparency initiatives like Spray Days. Through practical examples and an educational-first philosophy, this training empowers agricultural professionals to improve compliance, safeguard worker and environmental safety, and effectively respond to increased public interest in pesticide applications. Designed for growers, applicators, PCAs, and business partners, this session supports participants in navigating complex regulations while fostering proactive stewardship.
Course Objectives:
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify and explain recent updates to pesticide regulations in California, including new requirements for Notice of Intent submissions and timelines for restricted material applications.
- Demonstrate how to navigate CalAgPermits and understand the implications of the upcoming public Spray Days database for your operation.
- Learn how Stanislaus County’s “education-first” enforcement model promotes proactive compliance through outreach, private applicator training, and continuing education sessions.
- Distinguish between compliance actions, enforcement actions, and decision reports, and understand the criteria for classifying violations as Class A, B, or C under new civil penalty guidelines.
- Incorporate best practices such as checklists, permit planning, and apiary operator notifications to improve on-farm safety, reduce violations, and prepare for public scrutiny.
